Millennium Volunteers (MV) is a Government initiative which has been around since 2001, which acknowledges the hard work and commitment of young people in the voluntary sector. Providing nationally recognised accreditation, the MV programme gives 16-24 year olds a chance to build on what theyre into. A certificate will be awarded to everyone who completes 100 hours of volunteering over a 12-month period, and the MV Award of Excellence is presented to anyone who completes 200 hours in a year.
Responsibility for the MV scheme is being moved from the Duke of Edinburgh's Award to V, a new charity that was launched in May 2006 with a remit to widen and enhance youth volunteering.
MV will in time be re-branded to match the new charity, although it is not yet definite whether the MV brand will disappear or become a subsidiary brand of V. Active MVs who want to transition to the new V programme will be transferred to another local V provider.
