Building on our high profile success during our centenary year, The Scout Association has decided to formalise our Public Affairs Strategies and invest in a new team within the Marketing and Communications Directorate to lead The Scout Association's Public Affairs and Campaigning work.
The new post of Public Affairs Executive will develop, deliver and review popular campaigning strategies for TSA. They will to ensure that there is strong public, regional, national and sector interest in and support for our campaigning objectives.
The Public Affairs Executive will manage relationships with key external partners to ensure effective partnerships across our Public Affairs and campaigning activities. They will also develop, deliver and review our online campaigning strategies - in particular the public affairs and campaigning elements of our website.
The ideal candidate will have a good level of experience of working in public affairs or within Governmental or a public/popular campaigning environment. Good communication skills, numeracy and basic IT literacy are essential. The post holder will be expected to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel to events around the UK (including over night stays).

Job Summary:

Main Activities:
- Develop, deliver and review the strategies for TSA campaigns to ensure that there is strong regional, national and sector interest in our campaigning, and any issues are managed appropriately
- Manage relationships with key partners to ensure effective partnerships across our Public Affairs
- Develop, deliver and review our PA online communications strategy - in particular the public affairs and campaigning elements of our website www.scouts.org.uk
- Co-ordinate delivery of key messages across all Scouting internal communications and a wide range of marketing collateral
- Provide effective briefings to senior colleagues, members, key volunteers, peers, partners, sponsors
- Recommend methods for evaluating our PA and campaigning strategies and share results with target elements of the movement
- Deputise for the Head of Public Affairs in managing
- Responsible for reporting on targets for the campaigns project
- Monitoring information sources produced by government departments; the European Commission; think tanks; other non-governmental organisations (NGOs), peers and other bodies, in order to keep The Scout Association informed of any developments related to our activities;
- Communicating this information to the relevant part(s) of the Association;
- Responding to requests for information, often delivered at short notice
- Working with the Head of Public Affairs on researching, forecasting and evaluating the effects of public policy on The Scout Association through public sources, political intelligence and personal contacts
- Writing, briefing, campaign material and press releases
- Arranging meetings with key external decision makers, opinion formers and other organisations in our sector
- Occasionally attending select committee hearings, party conferences and other events
- To provide Public Affairs support to Counties/Areas/Districts by attending regional meeting, conferences, workshops etc

Administrative Assistant - Programme and Development
Starting Salary £14,737 (Band 7.1) inclusive of London Weighting, pro-rata
Location: Gilwell Park, Chingford, London
The Programme and Development Directorate are seeking to appoint an additional Administrative Assistant, for 28 hrs/4 days a week.
This post holder will report to the 'Development Grants Board Grants Manager'. You will work with the Manager to provide support for a range of grant types, processing and recording applications, payments and reports.
This post holder will support the members of the Development Grants Board, which includes both senior volunteers and staff. Duties include organising travel and accommodation for visits to projects across the UK. The role will also include supporting the Manager in organising Induction and other support events for members of the Local Development Officer Network and Project Management Teams, who are based across the UK. Additionally and generally you will provide information to enquirers about new applications and deal with enquiries about current grants and projects, particularly in the absence of the Manager.
As you can see this is wide ranging role with constant variety. It will require someone who enjoys taking responsibility for clearly specified areas of work and is able to work on their own initiative. You will also be required to liaise with a range of staff, Headquarters volunteers and members of the Movement generally.
We are seeking someone who is confident and able to manage these types of activities. You will also need to be efficient, well organised and able to use your initiative to solve problems. Deadlines are also an important part of this role and you must be able to recognise this and ensure that the appropriate support is provided on time and to quality and detail.
