General Information - Sponsorship and Promotions

Sponsored badges

All of our activity badges across the sections can be sponsored by organisations. We only work with those we consider as ethical and having a similar vision and values to us. As part of the agreement, the sponsor will have their corporate logo on the badge they are supporting and will also be promoted in Scouting Magazine and our other promotional channels. The aim is to provide brand awareness for the organisation whilst giving our members resources to help gain badges as well as access to competitions and fun days out across the UK.

Scout Meteorologist Badge - Met Office

The Met Office is very proud to sponsor the Scout's Meteorology Badge.

The weather is fascinating, not least because here in the British Isles it changes so much! It's a great idea for Scouts to learn more about this subject as so many Scout activities are set outdoors and can be disrupted by bad weather. For example, Scouts can learn how to recognise the clouds that might produce rain, predict how cold it is likely to be at night, and know where best to pitch tents so they are sheltered from the wind.

For more information about the Met Office, please visit http://www.metoffice.com/. The site contains forecast information (including details of how to access specialised forecasts for outdoor activities) and information on the Met Office's education services.

Resources

The booklet covers handy hints on how to recognise the clouds that might produce rain, predict how cold it is likely to be at night, and know where best to pitch tents so they are sheltered from the wind.

PDFs of the booklet and poster can be found here.

Requirements for the Scout Meteorology Badge can be found in The Library.

Cub Scout and Scout Navigator badges

Ordnance Survey is the national mapping agency for Great Britain and the internationally recognised market leader in its field. It is committed to increasing the use of mapping within schools and youth organisations; making outdoor activities safer and more enjoyable. It offers a wider range of products than any other comparable organisation, from traditional walking maps and road maps to large-scale and digital products. Electronic data now forms over 80% of the agency's turnover which is used by the public and private sector alike.

A map reading made easy leaflet has been produced for all Cub Scouts and Scouts undertaking the Navigator Badges. Stocks of pre-printed versions have now been depleted, but PDF versions have been placed on line.

Separate free guides to the Navigator badges for Pack and Troop Leaders can be downloaded from here.
