Country Networks

Reflecting the key relationships the Association has with countries, there are Country Networks, operating as Scout Fellowships, for Africa, Uganda, Poland and Russia.

UK-Africa Network Scout Fellowship

The UK-Africa network is a forum where members of The Scout Association, with a specific interest in Africa, can share knowledge, ideas and experiences. It promotes the expansion of International Scouting, with a particular focus on building friendships in the countries of sub-Saharan Africa. Collectively the Africa network members have experience in Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

The Africa network assists all sections of the Scout Movement. You may be a Beaver Scout Leader looking for a programme or a retired Scout Leader wishing to join a community project. You do not need to be a current member of the Scout Movement but must want to join and help it.

The Africa Network can help you go on trips of a lifetime by opening up opportunities to go and join in a variety of activities - white water rafting, community initiatives, mountaineering, construction projects and safari adventures.

The Africa network actively promotes Expeditions to all parts of sub-Saharan Africa. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience that can assist those aiming to attain their Explorer Belts. We can help on all aspects of an Expedition, from initial planning, to UK training camps, to the actual Expedition itself. Our meetings are held at varying locations throughout the United Kingdom.

More information can be obtained from their website at http://www.africanetwork.org.uk or via the International Office at Gilwell.

UK-Arab National Scout Fellowship

The UK-Arab Region National Scout fellowship (UK-Arab Fellowship) is the newest support network. It’s purpose is to provide a forum for Scout Association members who have an interest in Scouting in the Arab Region and those members of Arab Scout Region Associations who have an interest in UK Scouting. The Arab Scout region consists mainly of the Arabian Peninsular and North Africa.

The fellowship aims to:

  • promote an awareness of Scouting in the Arab Region;
  • to offer experience of Scouting in the Arab region and increase understanding of life and culture in the region;
  • to provide links with associations and groups in the region;
  • to develop and maintain programme support;
  • to offer advice and support to assist individuals and groups from The Scout association, and associations in the Arab Region and
  • to respond to requests from Scouting in the Arab region.

The fellowship was formed on the 2nd September 2006 and consists of members who have already visited; Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Libya, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The fellowship will expand this list and gain further information by organising future expeditions to Arab Region Countries, the fellowship maintains close contact with the Arab Region WSB offices in Cairo.

More information on the UK-Arab Fellowship can be found on their website www.uk-arabfellowship.org.uk.

Network Russia Scout Fellowship

Early in 1991, The Scout Association was asked, with Boy Scouts of America, to assist the Bureau to encourage the development of Russian Scouting: the UK in Western Russia and the BSA in Siberia. In 1991 an experimental camp was held in Odessa, Ukraine by UK Scouts. In 1992, an international training course for 17 Russian leaders was held at Gilwell Park and later in the year there was a study visit to Moscow and St Petersburg to establish direct links between British and Russian groups.

The UK support network became the Network Russia Scout Fellowship in March 2000 and continues to support relationships with Russia. They have an established web-based point of contact and hold meetings twice a year to spread good practice, share information and encourage developments in Russia.

More information on Scouting in Russia can be found in the 'Scouting in Russia' factsheet (BP260013) available from the information Centre, via the International Office at Gilwell or via the Network Russia websites at http://groups.msn.com/networkrussia and http://www.networkrussia.org.uk.

Network Russia have created a number of programme ideas for use in the Headquarters; these are available here

Serbia and Montenegro National Scout Fellowship (SAMnet)

SAMnet was formed in May 2004 after a Scout Association study visit to the country. Members of the Network regularly go back to the country and work to raise awareness of Scouting there and South East Europe in general within the UKSA.

More information on the work of SAMnet can be found on their website at http://www.samnet.org.uk.
